What is hand therapy?

Hand therapy is a distinct area of occupational therapy and physiotherapy that focuses on the rehabilitation of upper limb injuries and disorders. Hand therapists are highly skilled practitioners who work with patients to improve the function and quality of their lives.

What are the treatment methods offered by HandsOn?

HandsOn has a number of different treatment methods that can be tailored to the individual needs of each patient. Treatment may include:

  • Splinting: A splint is a device that is used to immobilise or support a part of the body. Splinting is often used in the early stages of rehabilitation to protect an injured area while it heals.
  • Oedema management: Oedema is the medical term for swelling. It is often a side effect of injury or surgery. Oedema management involves using techniques such as compression bandaging and massage to reduce swelling.
  • Wound care: Wound care is the process of cleaning and dressing wounds. This is important to prevent infection and promote healing.
  • Mobilisation: Mobilisation is the process of moving a joint or limb through its range of motion after periods of immobilisation or reduced activity. This helps to reduce stiffness and improve joint function.
  • Strengthening & conditioning: Strengthening and conditioning exercises help to improve the strength and endurance of muscles and joints. This can help to prevent injury and improve joint function.
