HandsOn and Hydrotherapy

Physiotherapist-led hydrotherapy is a clinically guided rehabilitation service delivered by an AHPRA-registered physiotherapist in a warm, therapeutic pool environment. It combines the principles of physiotherapy with the unique physical properties of water to support safe, effective and individualised movement therapy for people experiencing pain, injury, disability or chronic health conditions.

Hydrotherapy uses buoyancy to reduce the effects of gravity on the body, allowing patients to move with less load on joints and tissues. This makes it particularly suitable for those who experience difficulty exercising on land due to pain, weakness, balance limitations or reduced mobility. Water resistance provides gentle, adjustable strengthening, while the warmth of the pool assists with muscle relaxation, circulation and pain reduction.

HandsOn tailors each session to the individual following a comprehensive physiotherapy assessment in the clinic. Programs may focus on improving strength, range of motion, balance, cardiovascular fitness, functional movement and confidence in physical activity. HandsOn staff closely supervise all exercises to ensure correct technique, appropriate progression and safety at all times. Interventions may include post-operative rehabilitation, neurological re-education, chronic pain management and functional task practice.

Physiotherapist-led hydrotherapy is suitable for a wide range of presentations, including musculoskeletal injuries, arthritis, post-surgical recovery, neurological conditions, persistent pain and disability-related movement challenges. Sessions may be delivered individually or in small groups, depending on clinical needs and goals.

This service aims to enhance physical function, reduce pain, increase independence and support participation in daily activities. By providing a supportive and low-impact environment, physiotherapy-led hydrotherapy enables patients to move more freely, build confidence and progress towards meaningful rehabilitation outcomes.
