HandOn has a team of rehabilitation and return to work coordinators who provide onsite assistance for employers to facilitate timely assimilation of injured workers back into the workplace.
DRIVING ASSESSMENT
If you have a medical condition which may affect your ability to drive safely, your doctor may ask that you have a driver assessment so that your medical fitness to drive can be determined.
A driver assessment can only be conducted by an occupational therapist with the appropriate post graduate qualification.
HandsOn have a team of Driver Assessors available to assess fitness to drive for all the conditions listed on the Queensland Transport website.
What we do
We are occupational therapists and physiotherapists who specialise in the management of hand and upper limb conditions and work closely with surgeons, hospitals, general practitioners and insurers, including WorkCover and ComCare.
From finger tip to shoulder injuries, we utilise specialised techniques to manage wounds, swelling and scar tissue. Splinting, exercise, stretch and strengthening regimens are devised as home programs which are monitored and upgraded regularly.
In addition, we provide a wide range of ancilliary services to enable client management from wound to return to work.
HandsOn has been in it’s present Carina location for over 8 years. However, Clinical Director Barbara Watson was Queensland 's first Hand Therapist and commenced Brisbane 's first private hand and upper limb rehabilitation clinic with a Brisbane hand surgeon in 1990.
Clinical care has been enhanced during this time by provision of specialised services for:
Fracture bracing and management
Workplace rehabilitation, including vocational assessments and work site visits
Musculoskeletal conditions
Driving assessment and rehabilitation
Rheumatic diseases
War veterans and dependents, including provision of home visits
Elite sportsmen and women and musicians
Burns and lymphoedema management
Common conditions treated include:
Post surgical hands
Recent broken bones
Hand sprain from sport
Overuse injuries, including tendonitis and carpal tunnel
Arthritis – pre and post surgery
Chronic pain and post traumatic stiffness
The Team
HandsOn has a team of experienced occupational therapists, physiotherapists and exercise physiologists with specialist skills in hand and upper limb rehabilitation . Clinical practice standards are aligned to current national and international research and are continually upgraded by our senior hand therapists, Barbara Watson and Megan Gandfors. Clinical staff also have post graduate education which has enabled HandsOn to offer highly specialized services in the areas of workplace rehabilitation and medical fitness to drive assessments. HandsOn is the only Brisbane clinic offering a full time driver assessment and rehabilitation service.
Clinic locations
As a non CBD practice, we have responded to patient and referrer demand opening clinics across the southwest of Brisbane and to Redlands . We appreciate that transport can be difficult after an upper limb injury and that most people prefer to be treated in their own community.
